20th BCAK "Run/Walk for Awareness - Celebrate Life" Event
|
Lace up your sneakers, bring your family and friends and COME ON DOWN to Confederation Park on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 and join us for this special anniversary event from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We are offering online registration once again through the Running Room until May 6th at http://www.events.runningroom.com which gives the advantage of reaching friends and family far afield. You may still use the standard pledge sheet if you wish or a combination of both. Registration fees are $40 for the Run (collect $100 in pledges and it can be waived) $20 for the Walk (collect $50 in pledges and it can be waived) or $20 for Head Shaving ONLY (collect $50 in pledges and it can be waived). You will not be charged for head shaving if you are registered for the Run or Walk. Early registration and event kit pick-up will take place at the Running Room on Wednesday May 8th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm and on Thursday May 9th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. We will also be processing pledge sheets at the same time so any participants who have collected their pledges in person may bring them in at the Running Room during those times. Prizes will be awarded to the first three place male and female finishers in the 5K Run. Two prizes are available for the highest pledge collectors – one for a Headshaver sponsored by All Hair Alternatives and one for a Runner/Walker sponsored by Alison Smith. Registration fees include a BCAK t-shirt and food after the Run/Walk courtesy of Garlic Fields. We encourage you to register in advance if at all possible so we have an idea of the numbers of participants and also to avoid a big line-up. Registration for those not previously registered will take place at the Investors’ Tent between 9:00 and 10:00 am on site on Saturday 11 May. Please bring your pledge sheet and all monies with you and make sure everything is accounted for and legible. The bouncy castle will be there again as it was a big hit last year with the youngsters, likewise the face painting. The students from Trillium College will be on site to provide massages for a donation. This was also a popular activity last year. There will be coffee available courtesy of McDonalds and a bake table so you can buy a goodie or two to go with the coffee The Mayor and other politicians will be in attendance and a local breast cancer researcher who has received funding from BCAK will speak on his research project. One third of the proceeds from the Walk each year are remitted to local breast cancer research and since the first BCAK Walk back in 1994 upwards of $750,000 has gone towards research at KGH and Queen’s University. It is also the 15th anniversary of the Head Shaving component of the event. Since its inception, this part of the event has raised many thousands of dollars out of the overall total raised. At the 10th head shaving, $38,000 was raised, let’s try and better that this year. We will also be collecting those pennies you no longer have a use for so start ferreting them out. We are issuing a challenge to collect at least 150,000 pennies and there will be a collection jar on site.
Let’s make this special anniversary event for BCAK a truly memorable one by raising at least $75,000
